Why are Serious Readers’ Lights so expensive?

(Ad - this post is sponsored by Serious Readers but all opinions are, as always, my own)

I understand why you might be skeptical. In a world where you can order a £30 floor lamp from IKEA, why would you spend £300 on a reading light? It seems expensive, and I get it - we work hard for our money, and want to spend it wisely. It doesn’t seem sensible to spend hundreds of our hard earned pounds on, well, a lamp.

That’s normally what I’d think too, but soon after my brand new Serious Readers’ reading lamp landed on my doorstep, I was convinced. As part of our collaboration, the Serious Readers team sent me two of their lamps to try out, before I agreed to promote their product. The first was the showstopper: the High Definition Floor Light and the second, the High Definition Compact Light, which complimented it perfectly.

Opening the box, it’s clear that everything has been designed to create a seamless experience. Numbered boxes tell you which piece of cardboard to open first, and very little assembly is required. There’s no impossible instruction booklets with vague diagrams to be seen here! No flat packed misery, and no tools needed. Once I had the light out of its box, I immediately understood why these are considered to be quality, long lasting products. The floor lamp is heavy, made from long lasting steel which makes it much more difficult to knock over after the author of your current read kills off your favourite character. A Serious Light is a great investment, because it will last a lifetime - even a frustrating book!

Settling the light into position, perched next to my dedicated reading chair by my bookshelves, it was time to give it a go. The fully flexible arm means that I am able to bend the light into the perfect position. Previously, my floor lamps had filled the room with light more generally, but this one concentrates the light into a particular spot. The beam creates a pool of pure, natural light, using their specially developed Daylength Wavelight Technology.  It’s light that illuminates its subject crisply and precisely, meaning that you can read for hours on end without straining your eyes. I think we all know that feeling of reading late into the night, perhaps curled up in bed or in our favourite chair, squinting into the feeble light of the nearest lamp. This lamp is designed to compliment our vision. Being able to fully adjust the light into our preferred position allows us to sit more comfortably, and not twist into the direction of the light. The lamp works for you, the way that you sit and the way that you read, providing the light that you require.

Something I particularly love is that my light also came with a dimmer wheel, meaning that I can easily adjust the strength of the beam depending on my need. How have I not had a dimmable reading light before? The smaller Compact Light pleased me just as much as the larger one. I’m planning to use it on my desk, and it will be perfect for those evenings when I’m up late writing or working on a project. I’m the kind of creative who gets a huge boost in the middle of the night, so this light will be perfect for my working pattern.

Something else to consider when deciding whether to purchase a light from Serious Readers is that their products are hugely customisable. Each order is custom built in their UK based factory, and there are a number of potential customisations to choose from. For example, there are different colour options for the finish of the light, different material options for the handle, and the option to go for a two headed design if you so desire. This is a piece of lighting that is designed to fit into your home seamlessly, whatever your requirements.

If you’re worried about whether the light will really last, well, don’t. Each of the High Definition, Alex and Classic models benefit from a 5 year warranty period, and for those based in the UK, there’s a 30 day risk free trial. If you decide that you don’t want to keep the light then you can send it back, but I don’t think that you will. The quality of the product speaks for itself, and once you have it in your home you won’t want to let it go.

If you’re still not convinced, then keep reading, as I have a deal for you! Use my code ‘SR211’ for a free Compact Light with any of the Serious Lights range, and free international delivery. That’s two high quality lights for the price of one!

The High Definition Floor Lamp is their most powerful model, and can be purchased for £399.99. Other models are available for different budgets and purposes: the Alex Floor Light is £299.99 and the Classic Floor Light is £199.99. All models also come with Compact Light counterparts which are priced accordingly.

Do leave a comment and let me know if you have any questions as I’d be more than happy to answer them for you. For more information, take a look at the Serious Readers website here, where you can find the full information and prices for their fantastic range of reading lights.
