Ikea’s Strandmon Wing Chair Review

If you’re looking for a comfy armchair that works for a tight budget, then Ikea’s popular Strandmon Wing Chair is the chair for you.

First released by Ikea in the 1950s, this is a classic piece that adds a bit of class to a modern home.

How easy is it to build?

I’ll start with that crucial Ikea question - how easy is the Strandmon chair to build? Honestly, I did find it a bit difficult.

The chair itself comes in a few main pieces, and I really struggled with attaching the arms of the chair. The way that they hook in is a bit awkward and difficult to do.

It’s not just me; I looked on the Ikea website and read the reviews where lots of people report having struggles with attaching the arms of the chair. It’s by no means impossible, and not a reason to be put off buying the chair, it’s just something to consider when putting it together.

If you’re struggling, I’d recommend watching a tutorial on YouTube.

What’s good about it?

I personally love this chair and there are loads of great things about it. Firstly, it comes in a range of different colours including grey, yellow, red, green, beige, blue, and a black and white dog tooth pattern (I went for green as it’s my personal favourite). It’s very aesthetically pleasing and a really versatile piece of furniture. I use mine as a reading chair and keep it next to my bookshelves, but you could easily use it in a bedroom, living room or an office.

As well as looking lovely, the Strandmon Wing Chair is very functional, and I find it cosy and comfortable to relax in. It’s a deep chair and, at 5ft 7, I have plenty of room to curl up with my book and a cushion or two.

If you fancy it, there are a few pieces of matching furniture you can also buy to compliment the wing chair. There’s a footstool which you can purchase with or without storage, and a charming kids version too!

How big is the chair?

Here’s the technical part. The Strandmon chair is 82cm wide, 101cm tall and 96cm deep.

The price varies depending on the colour. Dark grey, red and yellow are priced at £199, and beige, blue, green and the black and white dogtooth are £229. If you’re going to struggle paying these figures up front, then a finance option is available that begins at £67 per month.

Ok, where can I buy myself one of these magnificent chairs?
