A Visit to the Chestnut Bakery in Covent Garden, London

Welcome to the Chestnut Bakery! I recently had the pleasure of visiting this gorgeous bakery and cafe that opened on Floral Street in Covent Garden this spring.

Their first branch was established in Belgravia in 2021, and I was really excited when I heard that they were due to open a second branch in a more central location. I visited early afternoon on a Sunday, and was pleasantly surprised that we were able to grab a table right away.

Often these pretty, instagrammable spots in London can get super busy, and while it definitely was busy, we didn’t have to queue to get in or wait for a table.

To avoid the long line up at the till we were able to order from our table using a QR code, and I treated myself to an indulgent almond croissant and an oat milk mocha, which my friend had a creamy hot chocolate. We were sat by the window on the ground floor which had beautiful lighting, and our order was served in lovely, simplistic crockery. It definitely has a Scandinavian feel.

The bakery’s menu has a great selection of baked goods and there’s definitely something for everyone. Whether you’d prefer a piece of cake or a pastry, or some delicious freshly made bread in a sandwich or flatbread. They do a special croissant variation every month (May 2022 is strawberry and rose water cheesecake), and are vegan friendly too, with a choice of milk and even a vegan cinnamon bun.

While the food is delicious, you’ll find the real show stopper up on the first floor, which has a huge window overlooking bustling Floral Street. It’s so rare to find somewhere with such a gorgeous view of Covent Garden, and I’d highly recommend snagging one of the upstairs window seats if you can. I wasn’t surprised to find out that Chestnut has actually taken over the two Instagram famous Dominique Ansel spots that closed their doors in 2020. You might remember them for their dreamy interiors and delicious cronuts (the combination of a croissant and a doughnut).

Where exactly is the bakery?

Located on Floral Street in Covent Garden, you’ll find the Chestnut Bakery at number 24, sandwiched between Leicester Square and Covent Garden underground stations. It’s really easy to access and is walking distance from a lot of central London attractions such as Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square, and is walkable within 20 minutes from Waterloo Station.

What is the pricing like?

As is typical of London, the prices are higher than what you may find elsewhere. However, it’s definitely worth the price - both for their delicious baked goods and for the stunning location. We paid £3.80 for a mocha, £4 for a hot chocolate and £4.90 for the twice baked almond croissant.

It’s worth it for a yummy treat!

Overall, I’ll definitely be recommending this lovely bakery to my friends and I’d love to return during another trip to London. Do keep an eye out on my Instagram as I’ll be sharing some photos from my visit over there too.
