Self Published Authors, Here's Why You Need to Enter the North Street Book Prize
This post is an paid advertisment but all opinions are my own
The world of book publishing is one crowded party. It’s estimated that between 600,000 and one million books are published across the globe each year, and that’s in addition to the millions of titles already in print. Well, here’s an opportunity that will set you apart from the rest, and has some amazing prizes that will help you to up your marketing game.
The North Street Book Prize for self published authors is a fantastic prize that really invests in the writing community. It offers cash prizes for a number of entrants, and the overall grand prize winner will take home $5,000 in addition to a bundle of marketing opportunities for their book. A whopping $12,500 is up for grabs in total, and will all be going to amazing self published writers like yourself. The top seven authors will also be awarded a range of marketing prizes, include a combination of phone consultations and advertisement spaces.
In order to enter, your book must fit into one of the following categories: Mainstream/Literary Fiction, Genre Fiction, Creative Nonfiction & Memoir, Poetry, Children’s Picture Book, Graphic Novel & Memoir. You can be living anywhere in the world except from Syria, Iran, North Korea, and Crimea (due to US government restrictions), and it doesn’t matter what year your book was published - they’re all eligible as long as the author isn’t deceased. There’s also no age limit for the author, and both physical books and ebooks are eligible. Take a look here for the full eligibility criteria.
In addition to the main prize, Winning Writers are also giving away a free PDF copy of last year’s grand prize winning book, Lay of the Land by J.R. Weber, which is a meticulously researched verse-drama set in 19th century Minnesota. Anyone can download the book to enjoy for a limited time, just take a look on their website.
If you’re still having any doubts, here’s what a previous winner had to say:
"As a recent winner, I am highly impressed about how supportive they have been: offering a detailed review of my work, a free ad, a marketing consult, and a credit for BookBaby—all of this in addition to a significant cash prize. All of this for an indie, self-published book of poetry: a category not served by many other venues. In my opinion, WW not only offers contest info, it also serves as a model of how a contest can serve the individual writer and the writing community." —W.R. Rodriguez
Convinced? Well don’t hang about because this contest closes on the 30th of June 2020. The winners are announced on the 15th of February 2021, and it costs $65 per book to enter. Head on over to their website here to submit your book for consideration.
A huge thanks to Winning Writers for partnering with me and allowing me to share this opportunity with you all. Do let me know if you’ve entered as I’d love to know!
