Here’s my review of Readly - the app for magazine fans and travellers who like to read on the go.
As an avid reader and freelance writer, I’m a big fan of a glossy magazine. It’s always fun seeing my writing in print, and I’ve found that a good mag can be a great way to learn new things. I particularly like reading travel magazines for inspiration for my future travels!
While I do really love the feel of physical magazines, buying lots of them can get quite expensive. That’s why I like Readly, which provides a way to read lots of different titles for an affordable price.
The app has a huge range of publications to choose from, including magazines and newspapers, with a total of 8000 titles across 38 categories.
There really is something for everyone: from the latest celebrity gossip and news headlines to crafting, travel, science, gaming, music, sport and so much more. There’s a weddings section for couples who are planning their big day, and lots of comics for children, including a Disney section.
Readly also has publications available in 15 different languages, including French, Spanish and Italian, making it a useful tool for people who want to practice their language skills.
The app itself can be used on a mobile phone and web browser, depending on your preference. I personally use it on my iPhone (although you can also use an Android) and find the app intuitive and easy to use.
I found that Readly has lots of helpful features; users can subscribe to their favourite publications and new issues are added to your personal library as they come out.
Readly functions similarly to other e-readers, where users can swipe their touchscreen to turn the pages and press the bookmark icon to save their place. Titles can also be downloaded to be read offline - making it ideal for travelling or other occasions when wifi may not be available.
I’ve downloaded plenty of reading material for my upcoming 11 hour flight to Bangkok, including a range of crosswords from the puzzles section.
When I first started using Readly I was delighted to find that lots of my favourite magazines are available on the app, including World of Cruising, Cruise & Travel, National Geographic and Wanderlust. As photograph heavy publications, they still look great on my phone screen and I don’t feel that reading them digitally compromises the quality.
Final Thoughts
It’s easy for me to say that I think Readly is a fab app. They provide a great service and for £12.99, with no limit on how many magazines you can read, you really can save a lot of money.
If you’d like to give it a go you can sign up to a three month free trial here. There’s no strings attached, so you can cancel at any time if you decide not to carry on with the subscription.
Magazine fans, I’d love to know what your favourite titles are, so leave a comment and let me know.
