Known for writing books that pack an emotional punch, Kathleen Glasgow has written five books. Four of these focus on mental health, while The Agathas is her murder mystery debut, co-authored with Liz Lawson.
Here are all of her books in chronological order, with a note from me about each one.
Girl in Pieces (2016)
Kathleen Glasgow’s first book, Girl in Pieces, is a hard hitting story following a teenager who hits rock bottom. This story follows her as she claws her way back out. It’s a great read and I highly recommend picking it up.
Synopsis:
“Charlie Davis is in pieces. At seventeen, she's already lost more than most people lose in a lifetime. But she's learned how to forget it through cutting; the pain washes out the sorrow until there is nothing but calm. She doesn't have to think about her father or what happened under the bridge. Her best friend, Ellis, who is gone forever. Or the mother who has nothing left to give her.
Kicked out of a special treatment center when her insurance runs out, Charlie finds herself in the bright and wild landscape of Tucson, Arizona, where she begins the unthinkable: the long journey of putting herself back together.”
How to Make Friends With the Dark (2019)
How to Make Friends With The Dark is a heart wrenching story featuring another young teen who’s going through the hardest time of her life. It’s a powerful novel and well worth a read.
Synopsis:
“Here is what happens when your mother dies. It’s the brightest day of summer and it’s dark outside. It’s dark in your house, dark in your room, and dark in your heart. You feel like the darkness is going to split you apart.
That’s how it feels for Tiger. It’s always been Tiger and her mother against the world. Then, on a day like any other, Tiger’s mother dies. And now it’s Tiger, alone. Here is how you learn to make friends with the dark.”
You’d Be Home Now (2021)
Another for my to-read list, I don’t have much to say yet about You’d be Home Now apart from that I definitely want to read it.
Synopsis:
“The quiet one, the obedient one, the reliable one. Emmy has spent her life being told exactly who she is. Not strong-willed like her beautiful sister Maddie and not in rehab like her wild brother Joey. But when a tragic accident changes life in her small town forever, can Emmy keep up the act?”
The Agathas (2022)
This is Glasgow’s murder mystery debut - I’ve not read it yet but I’m definitely going to! I’d love to know what you think if you’ve read it already.
Synopsis:
“After falling from grace last summer, Agatha Christie-obsessed Alice Ogilvie needs to stay out of trouble. While smart and reclusive Iris Adams just wants to get the hell out of Castle Cove.
But now they have a murder to solve. There are clues the police are ignoring, a list of suspects a mile long and some very dangerous cliffs. Amateur detectives Alice and Iris are about to uncover just how many secrets their sleepy seaside town is hiding…”
The Glass House (2024)
Her newest book, The Glass House publishes in October 2024 and is right at the top of my tbr!
Synopsis:
“Everyone in fifteen-year-old Bella’s life needs something from her. Her mom needs her to help around the house, her dad needs her to not make waves, her ex needs her to not be so much. The only person who never needed anything from her was her grandmother—and now she’s dead.
There’s only one thing that dulls the pressure: alcohol. Vodka, beer, peppermint schnapps—alcohol smooths the sharp edges of Bella’s life. And what’s the big deal? Everyone drinks. Besides, Bella can stop whenever she wants. But after she gets blackout drunk at a Thanksgiving party and wakes up in the hospital, it’s time to face reality. And for Bella, reality means rehab.”
