Inside Daunt Books, Marylebone, London
One of London’s most recognisable bookshops, Daunt Books has occupied its iconic premises in Marylebone since it was first opened by Richard Daunt in 1990.
The shop now forms part of one of the largest independent bookshop chains in the UK, with ten branches located across London and the south of England.
Don’t expect the titles here to be sorted in alphabetical order. The large gallery pictured above is organised by country, with each section stocking fiction, travel writing and history books relating to each particular location. The idea is that this provides readers with a much fuller picture of each location than a travel guide would (although they have those too).
Today the shop contains more than just books related to travel. Daunt expanded into the shop next door during the 90s, and now has expansive fiction, non-fiction and children’s sections.
The company’s publishing arm, Daunt Books Publishing, was founded in 2010, and specialises in publishing ‘the finest and most exciting new writing in English and in translation’. This spans a wide variety of genres, including fiction and non-fiction, as well as modern classics. The Daunt Books Originals imprint was launched to compliment this in 2020.
