A Stay at Beneath the Branches - Review

(I received a media discount in return for my honest review, however, all opinions are my own)

Nestled in the south of West Sussex, just a stone’s throw away from the South Downs National Park, you’ll find a luxury holiday home up in the trees. Adorned with twinkling lights and furnished with not one, but two enormous bathtubs, Beyond the Branches is a unique romantic getaway that will leave you dreaming of your next visit. Just take a peek at their guest book - nearly all of the previous visitors describe the treehouse as ‘magical’ and proclaim that they ‘will be back’. In fact, I wrote the same thing just before we left after an exquisite one night stay after a busy week of work.

A family run affair, Beneath the Branches is based in rural West Sussex farmland, surrounded by lush woodland, with horses in the neighbouring field and brave wild pheasants strutting along the country lanes. After clambering up the steps and entering the treehouse for the first time, it was clear that the owners have put a huge deal of thought into creating a unique experience for their guests. We were greeted with a friendly note from the owner, Imogen, and a bottle of Prosecco with glasses for two, perched on the living room table.

The largest room in the treehouse, the living space is decked out with a comfy sofa, a small television for movie nights and a selection of blankets and cushions. With a cosy country cottage kitchen on the far wall, this is the perfect space to enjoy a nice meal and relax. The kitchen itself is equipped with everything that you would need: a fridge, microwave, gas oven and hob. There was even a pint of milk waiting for us in the fridge ready for a nice cup of tea. Speaking of tea, teabags, coffee and sugar lumps are all provided, along with all of the necessary crockery and cutlery, so you don’t need to worry about bringing any of that with you.

Down in the bedroom most of the space is taken up by a comfortable double bed, with an amazing en suite bathroom behind a door to the left. I adored the beautiful roll top bathtub, which was long enough for me to stretch out completely (I’m 5ft 7), and comes complete with candles, toiletries and a bath tray. While I loved the indoor bath, the showstopper of the whole place really was the luxurious outdoor bathtub. The biggest bath I’ve ever seen, it’s easily large enough for two people to comfortably lie in, and is the perfect spot to spend an evening lounging in with a good book and a glass of Prosecco. There’s nothing quite like feeling the crisp spring air against your face, while the rest of your body is submerged in the warm water. Absolute bliss!

Beneath the Branches is a comfortable space for you to enjoy the outdoors, and the veranda out the front comes complete with two cosy armchairs, a barbecue, and a log burner to keep you toasty. Accompanied with blankets and a warm mug of hot chocolate, this is a great space to curl up in the evening. There’s a fire pit too, over on the grass next to the pond settled beneath the treehouse itself. You’ll still be able to enjoy the great outdoors even if it’s raining - large windows let in the light with lovely views of the surrounding countryside, and the heating is excellent so you need not worry about getting chilly on colder days.

For newcomers to the area, there’s lots to see and do in this part of the county; from local walks in the South Downs National Park to a number of quintessential English towns and villages for you to explore. Fancy a spot of tea and cake? Go for a wander around the cobblestoned paths of Steyning, or drive down to the coast which is just 10 miles away at Shoreham-by-Sea.

When booking your stay, prices will vary depending on the day of the week and the time of year, but a two night midweek break will generally cost you around £440. The treehouse is excellent value considering the quality, uniqueness, and fantastic attention to detail that has gone into its design, and in my opinion, is worth every penny. I’d highly recommend planning your own break at Beyond the Branches to relax, unwind, and make memories with someone you love. It’s a truly special place to stay.
