AKT Deodorant Review

Here’s my full unboxing and review of AKT’s deodorant balm - designed for everyday use by two London West End performers.

I’m writing this review just after reading that AKT’s deodorant balm is being used at the Paris 2024 Olympics by the Team GB rowing squad. This product has an impressive clientele, having been publicly endorsed by swathes of actors, athletes and magazine editors, so I have been very keen to give it a try.

Disclaimer: I was sent this product for free by AKT in return for an honest review and have not received any other payment from them. All opinions are my own.

Before I launch into my review, I’ll start by giving you a brief overview of what makes the product so unique. The AKT deodorant balm was developed over three years and is plastic free, made from natural ingredients, and gender free. It’s also vegan, cruelty free, and comes in an aluminium tube with a matching cap that can be fully recycled. The balm’s Deo-Barrier Complexmeans that it has a powdery consistency when applied, and doesn’t block your pores like other mainstream deodorants.

I was sent one of AKT’s starter sets, which includes one tube of the deodorant balm and a key called ‘The Assistant’. A gold, paddle shaped tool, this accessory ensures that you can squeeze out every last drop of the balm.

When using the balm itself, the first thing I noticed is that it smells absolutely amazing! The PR team let me choose which scent I wanted to try from their range, and as lavender is one of my all time favourites, the Onsen balm was an easy choice. This scent is mixed with Velviter, Lavandin and Citrus, and described to represent:

‘Steam dances over the hot spring, steeped in soft Japanese citrus. Cold, earthy air rushes into the lungs. Morning sun bathes the cedar mountains in a lavender light. Mind clear and calm. Breathe.’

The notes of lavender are strong enough that I can smell it while I’m wearing the deodorant under my clothes, and it’s definitely left me intrigued about the other scent options available. Their website advertises five signature scents, including one that is unscented.

In terms of the balm’s effectiveness as a deodorant, I’m please to report that it works very well. I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I am quite a sweaty person - it just seems to be the way that my body is made - and I tend to need very strong deodorant in order for it to be effective. I found that the AKT deodorant kept my underarms dry and fresh, which is what I needed.

One of AKT’s unique selling points is that the balm can be used anywhere on the body, and I was keen to put this to the test. I’m quite susceptible to getting a sweaty upper lip on hot days, and I hoped that this new balm would help with that. Unfortunately I found that the balm wasn’t as effective on my upper lip as my underarms, although I did notice the sweat being worse on the days that I didn’t use it. The attractive scent makes it a particularly good option to use on your face if needed, and I’d be interested to know how effective other people have found it.

Overall, I thought this was a great product and I was really happy with it. I’ll definitely be using it regularly until I finish off the tube, but at £21 a piece, it is slightly pricier than I would usually want to spend, so I’ll need to decide whether I want to keep buying it on a regular basis. It’s reported that each tube lasts 6 - 8 weeks, so it’s not something that I’d need to buy frequently.

If you want to try AKT deodorant, you can purchase one of their starter sets here. They also sell tubes individually, and offer a saving if you set up a subscription which offers a 15% discount with free shipping.

You can also use my code JULIA25 for 25% off your first order.

If you’ve tried the AKT deodorant balm before then I’d love to hear your thoughts, please leave a comment below and let me know!
