10 Places to Go in Ocean Village, Southampton
There are loads of things to see and do in Southampton, and today I want to tell you all about Ocean Village. A hidden gem positioned slightly south of the city centre, and based beside a beautiful marina, Ocean Village has a variety of fabulous amenities. Here’s my guide featuring 10 of the best locations to visit when you’re in Ocean Village.
Maritimo Lounge
Starting off with my favourite location, Maritimo Lounge is a lovely cafe/bar based on the waterfront. Three floors of seating boast beautiful views of the harbour, and there’s an outdoor seating area too. This is a great spot suitable for any meal, or drinks in the evening! Highly recommended.
Southampton Harbour Hotel and Spa
Arguably Southampton’s most luxurious location, the Harbour Hotel is a five star establishment that’s perfect for a weekend away or a spa trip. Their facilities include an indoor swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, mud rasul, and a state-of-the-art gym.
You can also book a range of different treatments which you can peruse on their website here.
HarBAR and The Jetty
In addition to the rooms and spa, the Harbour Hotel has two restaurants. HarBAR on 6th is a rooftop bar with a cosy terrace that also doubles as a club with a DJ on the weekends. You can also visit for afternoon tea!
The Jetty is a quieter spot that specialises in locally caught seafood. They also serve Sunday lunch and have a dedicated vegetarian and vegan menu.
Banana Wharf
A fab restaurant with a chilled vibe, Banana Wharf has an expansive menu ranging from seafood and steak to pasta and pizza. Oh, and I also love the twinkly lights that they have decorating their outdoor seating area (this is very important, obviously).
Walk around the Marina
This is a lovely spot for an evening stroll, and you can take some amazing photos of the harbour during golden hour (that final hour before the sun sets at night). You don’t need to be a yacht fanatic to enjoy the fantastic views, and it’s a peaceful spot for some self reflection or a read of your book.
And down Town Quay
After wandering around the marina I’d recommend continuing down to Town Quay, near the ferry terminals that run to Hythe and the Isle of Wight. You can see the humungous cruise ships from the Fawley Refinery View Point and it’s a great spot to sit in on a sunny day with a coffee.
The Piano and Pitcher
Here’s another lovely restaurant for your list. The Piano and Pitcher, like the other establishments on this list, has a waterside seating area, stylish interiors and a varied menu. A good spot for bottomless brunch!
Harbour Lights Cinema
Harbour Lights shows both mainstream and independent films. They also have a harbour side cafe and bar area where you can enjoy a drink before or after the movie.
Injoy soft play
Locals will recognise this building as the former Cineworld! Now a family activity centre complete with a trampoline park, laser tag, soft play and more, I was so pleased to see this site converted into another family friendly location. They host lots of different activities and classes so it’s worth checking out if you have little ones to entertain.
Ocean Grill restaurant
Here’s one last restaurant for your list. New to Ocean Village for 2021, the Ocean Grill is a spot for the seafood lovers out there, although they do also have vegetarian options. Choose whether you’d prefer ‘surf’ (fish) or ‘turf’ (steak) and exactly how you’d like it grilled for the perfect charcoal grill experience. Plus you can also buy some to take home!
I hope that you enjoy your visit to Ocean Village and do let me know if you spot any more hidden gems for my list.
